In the choir area, there are many carved wooden scenes of Biblical events. In years past, pictures such as these nearly always required flash (and would always garner a reprimand from the lurking docents) because they were covered in centuries of candle soot. No more. The walls are no longer a sort of wooden brown. Without the layer of soot that has seemingly always been there, the beauty of the stone bursts forth. It's 1250 AD again.
