I'm sure Lucerne is a very pretty mid-sized city when seen in the proper context.  We saw it, perhaps, at its worst:  overcast and rainy.  The brilliant colors of the elaborately painted houses are all washed out and left feeling...  ordinary, even though it's plain to see they are anything but ordinary.

Perhaps one day to come, we will return to Lucerne and see it in a better light.
