Like Château Montpoupon, Cheverney was one of the rare châteaux which stayed in the hands of its owners through the French Revolution. In fact, the Vernay family still resides here. The top floor of this magnificent château is off-limits to tourists because it is occupied by the Count and Countess Vernay and their children. Their primary source of revenue is the ticket booth at the entrance to the grounds. The château is extraordinarily well-kept, and the public areas contain an eclectic mixture of ancient and modern artifacts. A visit here is well worth both the time and the expense. |
