In the late 1800s a causeway was built from the mainland which, unfortunately, kept the water from flowing freely and the bay has suffered from a great deal of silting-over. Nevertheless, the tides still roar in and roar out on the schedule set by the Moon. At certain times of the year, very high tides will inundate the lower parking lots. Visitors who are overnight guests must park in the higher lots if they expect to have a car in the morning. Notice the parking lot on the left which is still quite wet from being underwater most of the night. |
