Because its 'footprint' is so small, Mont St-Michel is necessarily built very vertically.  By the time you're at rooftop-height, you are 25 meters (80 feet) above the water.  Some of the buildings have roofs more than double that, but from the entrance to the church, 300 feet -- 90 meters above the water, you look down on all of this.
