At the train station we got a cab to take us to our hotel at Jánský vršek 11. A block from the hotel these policemen stopped our cab to inspect the trunk and the engine compartment, and to check under the car for bombs. Up the street is the German Embassy. Down the street is the Irish Embassy. The U.S. Embassy is the only one in Prague where police inspect every car that passes. This might lead you to think that Europe is not a safe place for Americans and you would be quite wrong. Europeans like Americans; it's our foreign policy they aren't thrilled with. If we'd stop sticking our noses where they don't belong, these policemen could go home. |
