Yann Buchwalter spoke to us for about 25 minutes about the history of Château Clarke and the Irish who fled to France in the wake of the English victory at the Battle of the Boyne.  So many of them made the transition that the locals called them "the Wine Geese", a take-off on 'wild geese', to describe the invasion.  Even today, several notable French vignobles still carry Irish names, e.g.: Château Lynch.
