The batteries in the SONY Mavica's floppy disk adapter have faded and I need to get fresh batteries.  Where better than a supermarket, right?  Well, yes, except for this: their hours of operation.  They are open (Monday through Thursday) from 9:00am to 12:30pm, closed for lunch until 2:30pm and reopen until 7:30pm.  Virtually everything is closed from 12:30pm to 2:30pm.  Americans, used to their supermarkets opening at 7:00am and operating continuously until 10:00pm, stare at this sign with their jaws slack and their eyes glazed over.  I guess you shop on Friday or Saturday if you have a regular 9-5 job...

I couldn't find a single place in town that was (a) open and (b) had the right kind of batteries.
