The Abbesses Metro station is the closest station to Sacre Coeur in the area of Paris called Montmartre — from the Butte Montmartre on which it sits. The area is quite hilly — to get to Sacre Coeur from here requires considerable uphill walking or a ride on the funicular to the base of the church. We came here because we're on our way to dinner at Le Refuge des Fondus, 17 Rue de Trois Frères, described to us by our friend Steve Marcil as "the best fondue restaurant in Paris". That's quite a recommendation. By the way, the canopy over the entrance at Abbesses is one of the few remaining originals (by Hector Guimard) from the Metro's early days.
