When my friend Rony Flatscher saw our itinerary his only suggestion was that I break up the segment from Munich to Frankfurt (about five hours by car) because it was such a long trip. Americans don't consider five hours a long trip, but Europeans do, and a key factor in that is their train system. Their train stations are centrally located in their major cities only because the presence of the station defines "the center". Their trains leave on time and keep to their schedules. They're smooth, clean, and quiet and priced to compete with alternatives. The time for this photo is 3:01am Eastern Time, 9:01am local. The 9:20 to Salzburg is not yet at the platform, but it will be. |
