European trains (and Austrian and German trains probably more so) are indescribably smooth. Here Norene writes postcards on a little pull-out table in our 2nd-class compartment on the way to Salzburg. As an experiment I closed my eyes while the train was at a station and kept them shut until I felt the train start to move. After a few minutes wait, I decided to check why the train had not left the station and was shocked to discover that we were already traveling at high speed. The train moved off so gently I hadn't realized it. |
