[a333] — Mont St Michel Street

Steeply Pitched Streets

This is an interesting study in perspective.   Wherever the image of the horizon crosses a nearby object, your eyes are at approximately the same altitude as that point.   The horizon crosses just about at the peak of the roof of the house in the foreground.   That house is three stories tall (35 ft?) and the sidewalk in front of it appears to be on a level with chimneys further down the street.   This gives you a clear image of how steeply-pitched the street is.

This picture was taken at a spot probably 100' above the waterline and there is another two hundred or more feet to go (up) before reaching the abbey-proper.
