Olympia is nude — and voluptuous — and this is shocking.  Not because she's nude, but because she's looking straight at us, the brazen hussy!  She's brazen because she's a prostitute, hardly a character from mythology. 

If 'Birth of Venus' and 'Olympia' were accidentally hung next to each other, mothers would shield the eyes of their children from the latter.  This is not what respectable people come to galleries to see!
